Subject: US IP Renumbering
To:
Hey folks;
This is just a reminder that due to us leaving the HE datacentre after all of the powerloss issues there, our IP ranges from them (72.52.102.* and 72.52.127.*) will be unannounced as of the 1st of September, and no longer available to us. Like we mentioned in the prior email, we did have a replacement lined up, and as of this morning we've got that completed. As an example:
- If your IP was 72.52.102.50, the new IP is 209.141.61.50
- If your IP was 72.52.127.50, the new IP is 209.141.58.50
If you are on OpenVZ, then these new IPs have already been added to our database and your VPS' config file. To activate the new IP, all you need to do is issue a single restart for your VPS. The old 72.52 IP will remain attached so that your DNS transitions (if applicable) can go over smoothly. Once Hurricane Electric unannounces those IPs on the first, we will remove them en masse from our databases. Once this is done, you may simply restart your VPS a second time to remove the old 72.52 IP from your VPS' networking.
These new 209.141 IPs have been SWIP'd to a US-based geolocation. However, as we've heard from several clients now that certain sites (mainly Hulu, 有图比, etc) still recognize them as Canadian, we have setup another solution for clients that require access to US-locked sites. After ensuring that OpenVPN is correctly installed and configured on your VPS, you may follow the instructions given below to connect to this US-VPN:
- http://wiki.frantech.ca/index.php/US_VPN
As a reminder, the same regulations from the 72.52 IPs apply to this new VPN. Torrenting and downloading of illegal materials is not allowed, and any clients that abuse this privledge will have their access revoked.
If you are on our discontinued VMWare platform, please open a ticket no later than EOB, 31 August, to have your 72.52 IP changed to a 209. PLEASE include your root/Administrator password in this ticket, or we will not be able to perform the swap for you. |
